  2. I like the analogies the interviewer kept putting in to make it more understandable for the layperson.

  3. Having autism = a deathsentence to your social life. It is very shitty how society acts towards you, if you have this neurologic condition !

  4. The sine wave research fits my experience. I make considerably more eye contact when I am listening to loud music on headphones. Can be a bit awkward if it's some Parliament Funkadelic and take the eye contact a bit too creepy. Then resume to 'sperging away looking at dogs, birbs or insects.

  6. My son is Autistic.
    He's 30 now.
    He falls into the most awful depressive states due to his need to understand how people are thinking with regard to how he thinks people are reacting to him.
    He's defensive and obviously self centred.
    No confidence due to his inability to understand the complexities inherent in a society which doesn't even understand itself.
    Since it is increasingly becoming more inately autistic due to the massive influence of social technology.
    The more connected we are becoming to our preferred narrative…
    The more dependent on the nature through which it consequently reinforces our prejudices makes it almost impossible to fathom how our supposed/erroneous sense connectedness changes us…
    I don't need to wonder why people are consequently becoming more anti social. It's a paradox inherent in the availability of being able to access the constant babble of ersatz approval.
    Having a need to establish a method of interacting meaningfully with others in a real time sense …and being unable to filter any sense of meaning which excludes body language but which empathise the importance of words only…
    He's slipping into very dangerous psychìc territory…
    Like so many other people….desperately lacking meaningful human contact….

  7. I just found this one. BRILLIANT!! I (like I've mentioned in other posts) have 2 with autism. Thank you, so much, Stefan, for doing this! I'm going to look into this for my son, especially, who is 7 1/2, non-verbal and still in diapers. Awesome kid, though. My oldest girl, 11, is high functioning and definitely has anxiety and I'm worried she may start experiencing depression.

  12. I have autism and I look people in the eye, but not exactly. I try to focus on people's iris colors to distract myself from the anxiety of talking with them and focusing on the whites of their eyes. When someone's eyes widen like when they're frightened or angry, I cannot handle looking at them. I sense the emotion too much and get scared.

  17. I think psychiatry is a form of social control to uphold and justify the unequal capitalist mode of production. Did you know psychiatrists use to label black slaves with "drapetomania" because they wanted to flee captivity in the 19th century. Today if you can't handle the stress of working for the minimum wage you get labeled with a mental illness and drugged to the eyeballs to keep you quiet while the other slaves work for nothing, or immigrants do the job. Please look up anti psychiatry on YouTube and wake up people!

  19. Stefan! My girlfriend struggles with depression and I want to talk to you about it. My girlfriend and I were in an argument recent and I have a hard time wrapping my head around how I am supposed to help her in this situation. I don't want her to be depressed but when I show my passion and frustration with her things seems to go down hill. All she resorts to saying in the end is that I don't understand her and that the way I try to help her is the worst thing I can do. I can't ignore her. Is there anyway you can help me to understand her and her depression and how I as her partner in crime can better be the rock she chooses to cling to. Thanks! Josh from Oklahoma.

  21. Damn … I wish I was listening to Stefan back in 2009. Although back then I probably would not have been open to these ideas in the first place, sadly enough. Who knows, I might have learned to avoid a crash with anxiety later on in life. Excellent video!

  22. at 12:20, the Dr. comments that one of the most effective therapies for depression is cognitive therapy in which the patient is taught to recognize when they are ruminating and then challenge their thoughts. Others have pointed out that just that has been part of the teachings of many religions, notably Christianity, Hinduism, and it's various offshoots such as Buddhism. It is primarly atheists that get all caught up in their internal, ruminating dialogues because, being ego-centric almost beyond hope, they have no interest in even the therapeutic teachings and traditions from these religions. For the atheist, there is only "me"….what do they think of me? Do they like me? How can I make them like me? Was that a veiled insult aimed at me? What did I ever do to him/her? I'm the life of the party, ha ha ha. Who does she think she is, bitch! Why doesn't anyone like me? I'll show them!…..

    the human can't live in the animal state and be happy, but can, if fortunate, at least remain entertained, intoxicated and self-absorbed till death.

    Hundreds of hours spent listening to and internalizing FDR podcasts and other self-development guys so I could really understand what I needed to do at a deep level

    6 months of weekly therapy and I still see him once every few months.

    If you're really excited about improving your happiness let it consume you and become an obsession like it did with me. It's a long process but I'm far happier than I ever thought possible.

  29. I never said that all you needed was awareness to escape depression. If all I'd needed was awareness about my issues, listening to FDR would have been enough and I wouldn't have needed to spend hours in a therapist's office.

  30. You did a fabulous job holding your tongue when he mentioned applying for government "grant" money. You also gracefully pointed out the benefits of how to go about getting funds through the free market business route; sadly it seems he falls hard for the religion of government. Maybe he will read some of your books and attempt to approach his research logically via the Non Aggression Principle, not through the violence of government money.

The reason that anxious children turn into depressed adults is that they don't learn how to emotionally access the trauma(s) they are exposed to, not because they have depressed serotonin levels or enlarged or over active amygdalas' and depressed dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex or executive functions. The latter is neuroplasticity "result" (i.e., a typical neural wiring response to varying degrees of unhealthy family dynamics and greater social environment. So if we are just looking
