For some simple steps you can start with in your diet watch my video on how to approach weight loss:

Monitoring your blood pressure at home is a critical element to keeping your blood pressure under control. When it’s high you typically don’t have symptoms and oftentimes when you come see me you get nervous and your blood pressure goes up. It’s very helpful if you are taking it on a regular basis at home so we can tell if we need to make some adjustments. Here are a few options in blood pressure monitors that can help you with this:

  1. I’m going to tell you about five common ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen that can cure high blood pressure. 1) Pomegranate juice – This elixir has enough medicinal value to earn the name ‘wonder fruit.’ Scottish researchers from Queen Margaret University have identified how amazing it works for lowering blood pressure. 2) Celery – A recent study based in China, published by the National Institute of Health (NIH), hails celery as a great natural option for reducing blood pressure. More than 87% of the participants showed a reduction in blood pressure after consuming celery regularly. 3) Melatonin – It’s been used for years as a natural sleeping medicine with no side effects. But surprisingly, an Italian research study published in the American Journal of Hypertension shows it also brings blood pressure down while you sleep. 4) Hawthorn – Hawthorn extract and hawthorn berries have been shown to have very good blood pressure-lowering effects, almost equivalent to prescription drugs. The best thing about hawthorn is that it not only lowers blood pressure, but also strengthens heart muscles. 5) Quercetin – A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has reported that a 200 mg supplement of quercetin increased levels of nitric acid in the blood, thus dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. But we saved the best for last. The most effective, quickest and easiest way to lower blood pressure naturally are 3 easy blood pressure exercises. Click here : https://tinyurl.com/yy2443ya?

  2. Thank you Doc for the education……I am about 20 lbs overweight. My blood pressure increases (BP)) when i am in route to the physician. The increase can be as much as 30-50 pts; i.e., 120/77–150/ 100 if not higher. My personal rite-aid blood pressure machine is just as frightening as it fluctuates as well. I am sooo tired of the fluctuations and what i define as madness; BP 150/130 Rx meds, before leaving the Dr., BP slowing decreasing; by the time i get home-some what normal; take the meds. BP reading 88/66 blah blah blah … I will lose the extra weight as this will stop the skew madness. Truly sick of it !!

  3. I’m on Losartan-HCTZ 10-25 MG, 1 a day
    Labetalol HCL 200 MG, 3x’s a day
    Amlodipine Besylate 10 MG 1x a day
    Hydrazine 50 MG 2x’s a day
Is this over kill for anyone?

  11. I have a working relationship with my doctor and we work pretty well together however I believe my anxiety and sleep deprivation combined have me in an acute phase of high BP and it is in association with my 25 mg Hydrochlorot. 14. A side effect of Losartan is diarrhea, which on a daily basis is very annoying. I have tried Olmesartan and developed severe diarrhea & a 20 pound weight loss weight loss, after 9 months. Candesartan & Valsartan gave me a severe choking cough. Ace Inhibitors cause me to have a severe choking cough. I have been told there are no other medications available to lower my BP. I have lost so much weight since starting & stopping the medication, Olmesartan for 9 months, in 2018. Even after I stopped Olmesartan the diarrhea decreased but continued w/Losartan. I have been told there is nothing I can do but just accept the side effect of diarrhea. After 2 years, I’ve lost 30 pounds & my BMI is down to 18. Plus, I take Spironolactone. Pharmacists have no suggestions about what to do to deal w/GI upset, diarrhea &/or constipation w/Losartan or other medications. All I’m told to do is ask my physician. My physician says to ask the pharmacist, about dealing w/side effects of the medication.

  15. My blood pressure always goes up when I go to the Dentist.

  16. This is why lots of people don’t like doctors. Blood pressure can be lowered naturally. Cut breads, cut sugars, cut salts and get exercise. A vegan diet wouldn’t hurt either. Give up coffee. Doctors: Drug pushers for the pharmaceutical industry! Follow the $$$!

  17. I was on Lasartan (Hyzaar) from 2000-2005, when my new Doctor switched me to Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) 20 mg, which works fine, but even though I have a relatively healthy lifestyle (workout 3x/week-used to before the pandemic and diet) my blood pressure is about 140/90 +/_ and I gained lot of weight…one side effect that i noticed is that I have 3-4 bowel movements/day and my doctor said it's OK :-)))…3 years ago they came with the generic for this, which for some reason didn't work for me…should I ask my Doctor to change me from Benicar to another blood pressure medication?

  30. I think you need to talk about high blood pressure as a symptom, not a disease. So most of it can be taken care of it with weight loss plus exercise, plus a plant based diet (at least mostly) Increasing magnesium with a 200mg magnesium supplement will also help–good research to back up ALL those together. AND, each patient should be taught how to take their blood pressure, and keep a record for at least a month, then go to once a week. I was able to get off HP drugs by being at a good wt, eating plant based diet, and adding the magnesium. I walk, bike or kayak for 1 hour or more per day. I used to swim before Covid! Swam a mile in 40 min.

  31. I'm 67 and my blood pressure was a little high. I'm taking Losartan and Not much side effects.
